The Wages of  Sincere Appreciation
      for  Enforced Minimum Wage!
Minimum Wage legislation has been a priority for the Democrat Political Party members since the first minimum wage legislation  of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Today,  Republican party legislators are believed to be opposed to increasing the Federal minimum wage  from $5.15 per hour.  Many editorials and letters to the editor  express the opinion that this is not adequate,  and has not been adjusted to present conditions.  Several years have elapsed since Sept. 1, 1997,  when the current federal minimum wage was set at $5.15 per hour.

Poverty level income  for a family unit of three people is  $24,900  (2006 Annual Low Income Levels).  An hourly wage of  $12.50 per hour  will be twentyfive thousand dollars of family income for 50 weeks,  of forty hours per week.

Suppose that Republicans are willing to learn from a clear demonstration of the proposal of Democrat Party leaders,  and encourage a test of their proposal?  Republican leadership could promote bi-partisan cooperation and courtesy,  to allow the working people of this country to express their appreciation for the courageous leadership and bold initiative of the newly-elected majority of Democrat Representatives and Senators.

Republicans could learn from the achievement of a Democrat initiative -  clearly identified as a proposal of the Democrat Political Party,  which is designed to improve the lives of all those who could be employed at the  “Living Wage”  of  $12.50 per hour.  This could provide a daily pay of  $100.00  for an eight hour work day!

Republican leaders could discourage opposition  or obstruction from their (minority)  members of congress  or Senate,  and allow this bold initiative to be legislated.  Republicans could abstain,  and politely focus the appreciation of all Americans  on the humanitarian leaders who have worked to deliver the American Dream!

The only other thing necessary for a demonstration of this bold legislation,  is the freedom of employers to embrace this deserved reward for those who sweat and work so conscientiously to produce the goods and services we depend on.  It would hardly be a valid demonstration of the benefits of Federal (or State) Minimum Wage Legislation,  if penalties against employers are enforced  when they manage their best,  and fail to achieve what is expected of them.  This is easily accomplished by repeal of any mandated severance payments,  or changes in the payroll taxation for Unemployment compensation.

The opportunity is at hand -  to demonstrate the great improvement of the justly deserved share of the great productivity that is available when doubters and obstructors can abstain from withholding the rewards of this visionary goal for increasing Minimum Wage pay.
