adventure:
application for
Medicare Insurance
and
Social Security.
Wednesday: most helpful
lady at Knox County
Health Department,
on Dameron Avenue, told me,
Birth Certificate records
for earlier years
have been moved
to Nashville.
You will need your
Birth Certificate when
you apply
for social security.
They insisted
that
I show
my birth certificate
when
I applied
for social security.
Very helpful
and friendly
people gave directions
to the
Social Security office
located at
Walker Springs Road,
Kingston Pike.
I arrived
3:41 P.M.
at the
Social Security office.
The office
closed 3:30 P.M.
Two gentlemen
with identification badges,
were talking
outside.
One gentleman
helped me
with telephone number
and request
for appointment. Thursday: the lady at social security office was very experienced. Birth certificate was not necessary except for unusual circumstances. The lady was helpful and sent me to get a copy of DD‑214, Honorable Discharge certificate. She gave directions to Veterans Administration office: Cedar Bluff Road exit of Interstate Highway. Librarian at Cedar Bluff library branch told me: V.A. office has moved, a couple of years ago, South of West Town Mall. Receptionist in V.A. Outpatient Clinic told me: " Fill out this form, and mail to this address. They will mail the certificate to you in three or four weeks." The next day (Friday 09 Dec.), another lady in social security office examined letters from Veterans Administration, which I found. This lady sent me to the V.A. office on Ray Mears Drive near West Town Mall. They can provide a Copy of the DD‑214 certificate. I returned to the V.A. Outpatient Clinic on Ray Mears Drive, asked for the copy of DD‑214, and was told, again, "Fill out this form, and mail it, . . . We are not able to provide a copy." I went to Veterans Retirement Home in Karns community. I asked: "How do I get a copy of DD‑214 ?" The receptionist wrote the address, telephone number, and gave the paper to me. I asked for directions, and location of the office (written on the paper). Go to Farragut, and the V.A. office is located on the road which intersects Kingston Pike. Monday, I drove to Farragut, west on Kingston Pike, and did not find V.A. Office on Concord Road. I asked for help in the Bank on that corner. I found the paper: "601 S. Concord St." The very helpful people in the Bank printed a Map for me. Riverside Drive was renamed Neyland Drive, and intersects Kingston Pike near the bridge of Alcoa Highway. Concord Street is the street name, North of Kingston Pike intersection, near Tyson Junior High School. The "Counselor" in that V.A. office wrote down my name, verified Driver's License Identification, and said (Friday, 16 Dec.), he would call me, when the Copy of DD‑214 arrived. "I do this about once a week." He called Monday, and left message. Tuesday, The "Counselor" handed the envelope to me with the papers. Wednesday, 9:00 A.M., Social Security office, the lady who sent me to Veterans Administration office to get a Copy of DD‑214, watched me open the sealed envelope. "This is a Copy. We can't accept a Copy of this certificate." I explained: "You sent me to get a Copy of DD‑214 from the V.A. office on Ray Mears Drive." She took the Copy(s) and went down the hall to discuss. "We can make an exception for this application." Saturday, 24 December, I went to Wal‑Mart Pharmacy Dept. on Clinton Hwy. I asked the young man to help me sign up for Wal‑Mart— Humana Prescription Drug Plan. He told me: " Go to Walker Springs Wal‑Mart store." I asked: will the Humana counselor be available in Walker Springs store on Saturday? " The Humana counselor will help you in Walker Springs store today," he replied. I went to Walker Springs store. I learned: the Humana Counselor was there until approximately two weeks ago. Wal‑Mart has become afflicted by the Epimenides syndrome which vitiated veracity of social security clerks. Epimenides was from the Greek Island of Crete. " I am a Cretan." " All Cretans are Liars." Managing By Influence, Kenneth and Linda Schatz explain the gap between Authority to command behavior, and Influence— to encourage the best performance. Helen Keller was aware of incentives for achievement, and presented her example to encourage everyone. The "Counselor" has experience to demonstrate the best performance, search for improvements, and encourage workers to communicate with people— who request, or provide confirmation documents. The first Social security worker was not aware of re‑located V.A. office. The second Social security worker gave instructions Not consistent with services available from V.A. Clinic. Karns Veterans Home receptionist was helpful. Veterans Administration office was ten miles from location directions she provided. Each person was helpful and courteous. Several people were not aware of the Locations of government offices, or confirmation documents provided by workers in those offices. Escape Winter to a Warm Topical Asylum? M.B.'s ISLE |
